Getting Over Your Nerves

Who here is feeling the heat? As the summer weather scorches us again this week, let’s retreat to our nearest air conditioner to reflect and relax.

You may have noticed a bit of inactivity on the blog these past few months, which is mainly due to a two and a half month trip I did, completely solo. I explored Vietnam, Thailand and South Korea, which was an overall incredible experience!

I won’t lie though, there were times where my nerves got the best of me. On the weeks leading up to my trip, I was gripped with anxiety. People were coming up to me left and right, telling me how brave I was for even daring to attempt travelling in a developing country. I was being warned of the countless illnesses, robberies and accidents that occur to solo travellers. And since I was doing this trip alone, I didn’t have anyone to sit down with and share my worries. There were even a few brief moments where I considered cancelling the trip altogether.

But I didn’t. I held it together, got on that plane, and headed off to a land unknown. And guess what? Everything went completely fine. Better than fine! The trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience where I challenged myself, discovered how much I love being alone, and learned countless skills on handling myself in difficult situations.

It may seem like an obvious statement, but the first step is always the hardest. Once you get started on any path, it becomes easier as you grower stronger, smarter and better. It’s in the deep end of the pool where we truly learn to swim.

Keep up with more posts from my travels on our blog! Stay tuned xx
